About Deepskies.com

The design for this website was initially done with Adobe Lightroom using its Web Flash Gallery feature. The site was then converted to a ColdFusion application to allow easier administration of the website and to allow search engines like Google easier access to the site's content.

The actual images on the site were all captured from the Windows version of the astronomy program Starry Night 6. The AllSky Data layer was turned on, and all other layers turned off. The application was then put into Full Screen mode and set to a display size of 5° by 3° and that image exported to Adobe Photoshop for processing. The descriptions of the deep sky objects is mostly based on the information provided in Starry Night as well as some information from "Burnham's Celestial Handbook" by Robert Burham Jr. (©1966, 1978 by Robert Berham Jr.). The actual idea to present these objects in a common format as seen by astronomers comes from Hans Vehbrenberg's excellent book "Atlas of DeepSky Splendors, Fourth Edition" (© 1983 by Sky Publishing Corporation).
